At AceURMath, protecting children is at the heart of everything we build. Because our app is designed for kids, we follow the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA") and the rules the Federal Trade Commission has issued under it.
This page explains, in plain language, what information we collect from children, how parents and guardians consent, and the rights you have over your child's information. It works together with our Privacy Policy — if anything here conflicts with the Privacy Policy regarding children, this page governs.
1. What COPPA Is
COPPA is a U.S. law that protects the personal information of children under the age of 13 online. It requires services directed to children to be transparent about what they collect, to obtain consent from a parent or guardian, to limit collection to what is necessary, and to give parents control over their child's information. We are committed to honoring both the letter and the spirit of these protections.
2. What We Collect From Children
We deliberately collect as little as possible from children — only what's needed for a child to learn with AceURMath:
- Profile basics set by the parent, guardian, or teacher: a first name or display name, grade level, and a chosen avatar.
- Learning activity: answers, scores, progress, mastery, streaks, points, rewards, and time spent — used to personalize learning and build progress reports for the adult.
- Homework Scanner images: when a child photographs a math problem, the image is used to generate a step-by-step solution.
- Basic technical/diagnostic data needed to keep the app working and fix problems.
3. What We Never Do
- We never show behavioral or targeted advertising to children.
- We never sell a child's personal information.
- We never build advertising profiles of children.
- We never ask a child to share more information than is necessary to use a feature.
- We never knowingly let third parties collect a child's information for their own advertising.
4. How We Use a Child's Information
- To provide the learning experience and adapt difficulty to the child's level.
- To generate progress reports for parents, guardians, and teachers.
- To maintain rewards, streaks, and other in-app motivation.
- To keep the app secure and working properly.
- To comply with our legal obligations.
5. Parental Consent
A child's account is created and managed by a parent, guardian, or authorized teacher. That adult sets up the child's profile and, in doing so, consents to the collection and use of the child's information as described here and in our Privacy Policy. We collect personal information from a child only after an authorized adult has set up the profile.
You're always in control. As the parent or guardian, you can review your child's information, ask us to delete it, and stop any further collection at any time — see your rights below.
6. Your Rights as a Parent
At any time, you may:
- Review the personal information we have collected from your child;
- Request deletion of your child's personal information; and
- Refuse to allow any further collection or use of your child's information (note that this may mean your child can no longer use parts of the Service).
To exercise any of these rights, email us at [email protected]. To protect your child, we may need to verify your identity and your relationship to the child before acting on a request.
7. Service Providers
We use a limited set of trusted service providers to operate the app — for example, secure cloud hosting, subscription/payment processing, email delivery, AI services that power the tutor and Homework Scanner, and tools that help us detect and fix technical problems. These providers are bound by contract to protect the information and to use it only to provide their services to us. They are not permitted to use a child's information for their own advertising.
8. Security & Retention
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect children's information, including encryption of sensitive data where appropriate. We keep a child's information only as long as needed to provide the Service or as required by law, and we delete or de-identify it within a reasonable period after an account is closed or a parent requests deletion.
9. Schools & Educators
Where a school or teacher creates student accounts, the school or teacher represents that it has the authority to do so on behalf of parents — including providing any consent required under COPPA or applicable school-privacy laws. We use student information only to provide the educational service to the school, not for advertising.
10. Changes to This Page
If we make material changes to our children's privacy practices, we will update the "Last Updated" date above and, where required, notify parents. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised practices.
